At Eng & Woods we stand for our community. Whether it be by supporting a local sports team or by sponsoring families at Christmas through VAC, the attorneys and staff of Eng & Woods enjoy giving back to our community. In an effort to increase the visibility of some of our favorite charities and programs, we’ve elected to highlight them on our website.
Alternative Community Training, Inc. –www.actservices.org
One of Mr. Eng’s three children, Matthew, works at a wonderful facility, ACT, formerly known as Woodhaven School. ACT (Alternative Community Training, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that provides an array of programs and services to persons with developmental and other disabilities who live in Columbia and throughout Central Missouri. ACT provides employment programs, a day program and a residential program, all designed to increase the opportunity for greater community participation. Other services include personal assistance to individuals living in their own home and behavior development services. In operation since 1975, ACT is nationally accredited by CARF. A favorite activity of Matthew’s is delivering Meals on Wheels to members of our community.

The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri – www.sharefoodbringhope.org
The Food Bank has been in operation since 1981. This year the Food Bank has provided over 27 million pounds of food to 135 agencies and 126 schools throughout 32 counties. The food is sent to soup kitchens, emergency food pantries, shelters for the abused and homeless, programs for low income children and senior citizens and rehabilitation centers all at no charge.
Throughout the year, the Columbia Jaycees host a variety of fund-raising events to benefit the local charities like Wonderland Camp and Stu22Crew. From poker games and golf tournaments and the mouth-watering annual chili cookoff, the Jaycees always host fun activities as a way to support our community. In addition, they sponsor the Holiday Parade, which is an event not to be missed as the community gathers together to celebrate the holiday season in downtown Columbia.
